Big fan of sports, traveling, spending time with friends and family, and playing board games
Sports have always been my sweet spot, having grown up in gymnasiums at wrestling tournaments, on the ball diamond at softball games, and in the bowling alley for bowling meets. Three words describe the impact sports have had on my personal and professional development - never give up. From my junior year of high school on, I have used my tenacity and dedication to pursue sports journalism in the early part of my career. This included setting personal records of being the first Wartburg KnightVision female color commentator for football broadcasts and the first female play-by-play announcer for wrestling broadcasts, in addition to being the first female Sports Editor at Waverly Newspapers in the publication’s 160-plus year history.
As my career progressed, I took my love of sports and became a dedicated and passionate sports fan again. But that didn’t stop me from wanting to inspire others to be their best, just like many coaches had done throughout my lifetime and involvement in sports. This new turn in my career led me to healthcare and public health marketing and communications, where I share compelling stories and insightful tips for others to live their best lives and achieve greatness.
No matter which jersey I’m wearing, a sports journalist or health communicator, I strive to communicate with those around me in a way that not only informs but inspires. By putting my marketing and communication skills to good use, I can encourage others, just as the sports industry did for this small-town Iowa girl.
